Disinformation is not a problem created by social networks, however, as a result of them, the amount of information consumed and produced has increased exponentially and new automation technologies for the viralization of content have been created. Different actors, in Brazil and in the world, are mobilizing in an attempt to curb online misinformation to preserve, especially, democracy. But what are the lessons learned by those who fight misinformation and its automated push on digital platforms?

Despite the limitations, whether in terms of access to data or resources, researchers, journalists, academics and developers advance in the construction of knowledge, techniques and tools that help identify the propagators of disinformation in the digital environment.

At Varanda ITS #104, we invited researchers to discuss the difficulties and limitations of combating misinformation on platforms, the tools and methodologies used, and how knowledge is built. In addition, we want to introduce and encourage knowledge production about Pegabot, our automated profiling platform.

Participating in the event are João Guilherme Bastos dos Santos, coordinator of the INCT.DD Data Laboratory, Caio Almeida, director of Software Engineering at Meedan, Daniel Schwabe, retired researcher and professor at the Information Technology Department at PUC-Rio, and Thayane Guimarães , senior researcher in the area of Democracy and Technology at ITS. Moderation is in charge of Diego Cerqueira, researcher in the area of Democracy and Technology at ITS.
